Baby Basics, Inc. is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization that provides and distributes free diapers to babies of the working/near poor in the communities of South Boston, MA and Needham, MA.
We believe that early intervention with infants is one of the best ways to maximize their potential to thrive. And we recognize that diapers are a constant, expensive necessity. By providing these children with diapers, we are ensuring that the need for hygienic essentials, from birth to age three, is met.
We also provide their families, who are struggling to make ends meet but have incomes too high to qualify for federal and state cash subsidies, with a supportive safety net from welfare and the opportunity to succeed. We will do this in a caring environment, with a listening ear, and as needed, referrals for help, and the opportunity to connect with other programs and services in South Boston and Needham.
Baby Basics operates with the aid of volunteers and a working Board, and distributes diapers to participating families monthly. We rely on private donations and fundraisers, 100% of which goes to the purchase of diapers. Administrative costs are underwritten by donations earmarked as such.
Beyond being just a diaper distribution program, it is our goal to provide a supportive atmosphere and community for these families who are working hard. This is our kindness. Baby Basics strives to be that connection to a caring community of support and a safe place to share their daily struggles and successes, hopefully relieving the sense of isolation for these struggling families.
Checks made payable to Baby Basics, Inc. can be sent to 47 Beaufort Avenue, Needham, MA 02492.

"I am so involved because I see and hear the struggles of daily living and the inside stories of hardships. Families feel your love and support and the hope helping creates. They feel the caring and sharing that goes long after distribution. They in return help others in need when occasions arise. It becomes more than you dream. I see their hope and them feeling they are not alone.”
– Mary Lou Rosher, WIC Representative, Baby Basics Volunteer
