"As a former teacher, I have always been interested in child development. All the recent studies indicate the importance of the first 18 months for brain development. I realized that the children in near poverty situations were the most at risk for failure to thrive. Baby Basics, Inc. was born to support these struggling families."

Alicia Stedman, a mother of three children, has experienced first hand the costly and important role that good hygiene means for babies. She seized the opportunity to stay at home to care for her son and daughters. Although she enjoyed working in human resources at a Boston financial services company, she now feels very fortunate to have this special time with her kids. She has lived in the Boston area for ten years and is passionate about her involvement in Baby Basics and giving back to the community.

Dayna Coakley works in Human Resources for a local financial services company and is the mother of two children.

Jennifer Haggerty has two children and her background is in Human Resources. Becoming a mother recently herself, she was shocked at the cost of diapers. I can't think of a better way than providing babies with the things they need most."

Christiane Sodano grew up in the Boston area and is the mother of three. She joined baby basics in 2002 after leaving her career in the corporate retail industry. Amy Millay grew up in the Boston area and teaches Latin American literature at a local university. She has three children. Amy finds Baby Basics unique because all the contributions benefit babies of hardworking parents in South Boston. She wanted to give back to the community and found Baby Basics a great way to do so.

Alisha Harrington is the mother of two young children. She previously was a Public Defender in Philadelphia for several years. Volunteering and public service has always been an important part of Alisha's life, particularly serving groups and organizations that typically don't get a lot of attention. When she moved to the Boston area and heard about Baby Basics she was interested in getting involved, particularly because it provides a basic necessity for babies that many people take for granted.

Carin Coyne joined the board after feeling a void left by her break from teaching third grade. Carin taught in Framingham, MA for eight years before deciding to stay home with her son. During that time she came to recognize many of the struggles families face in urban living. This knowledge, accompanied by her belief that children who have their basic needs met have a stronger foundation prompted her to get involved with Baby Basics. Carin is thrilled to be in a group that focuses on fundamental needs.
